The new Eastern Switzerland branch office of Renggli AG and its international subsidiary Renggli International AG was opened in Winterthur on April 12, 2018.
Last Thursday marked the opening in Winterthur of a new company location for Renggli AG, whose head office is in Schötz in the canton of Lucerne. The new office houses the new Eastern Switzerland branch office of Renggli AG and its international subsidiary Renggli International AG, which was founded in February. Some 60 guests from the architecture and construction industry were there to find out why the traditional Swiss timber construction company is making the leap into foreign markets.
The timber construction company and general contractor Renggli AG, whose head office is in Schötz in the canton of Lucerne, has expanded its area of business. To support this expansion it acquired SMC Management Contractors SA in Winterthur, which was renamed Renggli International AG on February 1, 2018.
SMC SA was an established player in the Swiss construction industry and was involved in the development, management and controlling of national and international real estate projects. The company had subsidiaries in Germany and Italy. Stephan[A1] Rickenbach, the managing director of the former SMC, was looking to organize his succession and met with Max Renggli. “We agreed immediately that our two companies could follow a common path, and sealed the deal with a simple handshake. No one would have thought that we would be standing here a year later,” said Max Renggli at the start of his welcome address.
Renggli International AG will retain SMC SA’s portfolio of expertise and also offer additional services: consultancy on site and project development, consultancy on works planning, consultancy and representation for developers, engineering and project management for interdisciplinary projects, general and total contractor mandates for complex international construction projects.
“International expansion is a logical step for us,” added Martin Joos, the new Managing Director of Renggli International AG. “We possess a high level of production and technical expertise in industrialized timber construction coupled with the requisite curiosity and innovative strength to apply our knowledge in foreign markets as well.” The plan is to expand gradually into both European and worldwide markets. The family-owned company from Schötz wants to further exploit the potential in industrialized timber construction, achieve diversification in terms of markets and segments and extend its sphere of operations to ensure a more balanced utilization of production capacity. Martin Joos is certain that Switzerland’s technical knowledge advantage will be highly sought after in various foreign markets.
With its new subsidiary and Swiss branch office, Renggli AG is able to offer additional prospects and development opportunities for both existing and new employees. Renggli International AG currently comprises a team of eight employees. Stephan Rickenbach will act as Senior Project Manager for international business and will also head up the Eastern Switzerland branch office.
The opening of the new location at Bürglistrasse 33 in Winterthur was attended by some 60 guests from the architecture and construction industry. Peter C. Jakob, partner at Bauart Architekten AG in Bern, gave a speech on the topic of building densification. He also presented studies on boosting sufficiency in living spaces and the «swisswoodhouse» concept developed jointly with Renggli AG.
